David Dellagi

David Dellagi (b. 1970, Denmark) currently lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark. He has a BA in Film and Media Studies from University of Copenhagen, and has previously created several award nominated short – and animated films.

Working in a variety of media such as drawing, collage, sculpture and video, David Dellagi creates images of fear, struggle and sexual frustration that exude black humor and, paradoxically, a peculiar sense of innocence and lyricism.

The bio-morphic and pornographic grotesques primarily serve as motifs for Dellagi’s artistic production. Here we encounter a number of white figures and reliefs, whose production is rooted in a sculptural exploration, which involves a special focus on form and material experiments executed entirely of paper and glue in a further development of the qualities of papiér maché. These sculptures radiate an unpretentious quality, combined with a rawness in texture and an occasionally surprisingly detailed modelling. They are ”off” in the best sense of the word.

The unique quality of Dellagi’s drawings is, arguably, their ability to catch and depict the absurd psychological paradoxes of life in the simplest way, for maximum effect.
